USAID “Power Central Asia” Project

Assisting USAID to improve the investment environment for renewable energy and address renewable energy grid integration issues, the Government of Kazakhstan initiated amendments to its renewable energy and electricity laws in the Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan.

 Advising on implementation of by-laws and regulations for the recently adopted Law on Amendments to the Renewable Energy and Electricity Laws, including analysis of the competitive landscape of the Central Asian regional power market by assessing the ownership structure of energy generation, price drivers, and government involvement in the electricity wholesale market in the region, assisting with amending the legislation to facilitate the market liberalisation that should address the existing weaknesses of the energy market and developing the comparative table with proposed amendments to the existing regulations and developed justification for each proposed amendment.
